What people are saying about
the 2008 Quiet Commotion Summit:
I got
more out of the conference than I put in. It was a positive, encouraging experience...thanks for the invite, and extend
my thanks to the others who helped organize and run the conference. I appreciate the chance to highlight the challenges and
value of urban interface lands. --Greg Currie, Outdoor Recreation Planner, BLM Prineville District
Office
I really enjoyed
being part of the QC in Boise… I'd like to give a specific thank you for directing conversation towards the positive
and productive; I think that made all the difference. --Drew, IMBA
Public lands serve many functions for those who recreate on them.
Many traditional users are finding it increasingly
difficult to have the types of recreational experiences they desire on these lands.
While we believe public lands
can and should see a broad spectrum of recreational uses, we believe non-motorized users are important and we need to take
an active role in ensuring that our children will be able to have the same opportunities that we've been fortunate to have.
This conference will focus on what quiet recreation is, why it's important, and how we can work together to preserve
these uses. Through sound science, recreation/resource management planning techniques, and public interest trends, participants
will gain an understanding of the broad support for preserving quality places for traditional quiet recreation and wildlife
habitat protection.
This conference also seeks to strengthen relationships among public lands users and land managers
so we can all work together to rpotect and preserve the lands we all treasure.
